The UN Human Rights Office in Bangkok is joining the Second Asia-Pacific Regional Review of Implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration with the Regional United Nations Network on Migration for Asia and the Pacific at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok from 4 to 6 February 2025. The intergovernmental meeting will bring together ESCAP members and associated members, relevant stakeholders, United Nations entities, and independent experts from across the Asia-Pacific region.
In brief, the UN Human Rights Office is leading the organisation of one roundtable discussion and one side event on 5 February including:
- ROUNDTABLE: Protecting migrants through rights-based border governance, 9:00 – 12:00 Bangkok time
- SIDE EVENT: Migrants’ Right to Family Life: Towards Migration That Keeps Families Together, 12:30 – 13:45 Bangkok time
The Office is also co-organising a side event: "Promising Practices and Peer Learning: Alternatives to Immigration Detention in the Asia Pacific within the Framework of the GCM and GCR" with other UN agencies and partners on 6 February, and will be speaking at two CSO side events scheduled on 4 and 6 February, respectively.
