Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable
Development 2021 and Human Rights
The Regional Office for South-East Asia co-organized a number of activities at the Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2021, including the side-events:
- Indigenous Peoples resilience and recovery from COVID-19,
- Enabling Sustainable Recovery with Greater Access to Justice and Public Participation in Environmental Decision making and
- The Role of Environmental HR Defenders in support and enhancing sustainable COVID-19 recovery prepared for the APFSD included dedicated section on human rights and gender equality.
The Regional Office, together with UN Women, ensured that all SDG goal profiles prepared for the APFSD included dedicated section on human rights and gender equality.
The Regional Office also engaged in the APFSD Youth Forum, the Asia-Pacific People’s Forum, an in the annual workshop on the Voluntary National Reviews for countries reporting to the High-Level Political Forum 2021.
In addition, as a co-chair of the Issue-based coalition on Human Rights, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (IBC HR-GEWE), the Regional Office led the organization of the roundtable on SDG 16, which resulted in a number of recommendations to accelerate progress on SDG 16 in the Asia-Pacific region, and the Regional Office led breakout group in the roundtable on SDG 10. The IBC HR-GEWE also co-organized the side-event The Rights Path in Recovery – How countries place human rights at the centre of responding and building back better.
