MEDIA ADVISORY: UN Human Rights Chief to visit Malaysia, 4-5 October

GENEVA/BANGKOK (2 October 2019) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet will conduct an official visit to Malaysia between 4 and 5 October, at the invitation of the Government. The visit is the first ever by a UN Human Rights Chief to the country.

During her visit, Bachelet is scheduled to meet Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad and other high-level Government officials as well as the national human rights institution, SUHAKAM, civil society organisations, the National Bar Association and the UN and diplomatic community. The High Commissioner is also due to visit an alternative learning centre for refugees, the Rohingya Integrated School of Excellence, in Kajan, Selangor.

At the end of her visit, High Commissioner Bachelet will hold a press conference at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 5 October 2019 at 14:40.

Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Hak Asasi Manusia PBB akan melawat Malaysia, 4-5 Oktober

GENEVA/BANGKOK (2 Oktober 2019) – Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Hak Asasi Manusia PBB, Michelle Bachelet akan membuat lawatan rasmi ke Malaysia atas jemputan kerajaan Malaysia pada 4 dan 5 Oktober 2019. Ini adalah lawatan pertama kali bagi Ketua Hak Asasi Manusia PBB di negara ini.

Semasa lawatan beliau, Bachelet dijadualkan bertemu dengan Perdana Menteri, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad beserta dengan pegawai-pegawai tinggi kerajaan Malaysia dan juga wakil-wakil dari pertubuhan nasional hak asasi manusia, SUHAKAM, pertubuhan-pertubuhan masyarakat sivil, Lembaga Peguam Malaysia, PBB dan komuniti diplomatik. Beliau juga akan melawat sebuah pusat pembelajaran alternatif untuk para pelarian, the Rohingya Integrated School of Excellence, di Kajang, Selangor.

Pada akhir lawatan beliau, Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Bachelet akan mengadakan satu sidang akhbar di Hotel Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur pada tarikh 5 Oktober 2019, jam 14h40.
