On Human Rights Day 2020, the UN Human Rights Regional Office for South-East Asia, together with support from the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand, hosted a photo exhibition entitled “Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights.” The event featured keynote speeches from representatives of UN Human Rights Office, the EU and the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights as well as storytelling and photographs contributed by representatives of civil society and the media.

This year’s Human Rights Day global theme relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery efforts.

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document that proclaims the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
