UN Special Procedures Communications Relative to Civic Space in Asia from 2015 to 2020

This website contains a visual overview of communications of the UN Special Procedures as they relate to civic space in the region of South-East Asia, East Asia and South-Asia. The UN Special Rapporteurs on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression; the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, and the situation of human rights defenders have regularly raised concerns relevant to civic space as have many of the other Special Procedures mandate holders. Full details can be viewed upon opening each communication. Communications may be accessed by mandates, state replies, year of communication. All communications can also be accessed on the Special Procedures Database.

“The communications mechanism of the Special Procedures is a nimble and direct form for protecting human rights. Bringing our work closer to the ground is at the heart of our mandates, and crucial for widening civic space. We welcome interactive tools such as these as a way of promoting easier access to our work and procedures in Asia.”
